Loading rate effect on the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) behavior of cemented paste backfill (CPB)

Underground mined-out areas and tailings are the two major harmful consequences from metal mining industry. Cemented Paste Backfill (CPB) method, refilling back to underground areas, has been widely used worldwide. Clear understanding on uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) behavior of CPB is very important for stability analysis backfill structure parameters optimization plan. However, UCS tests can be markedly affected by testing loading rate. And few papers reported effect different rates CPB. In this study, 14-day cured samples investigated using five rates: 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2 mm/min. The digital image correlation (DIC) method scanning electron microscope (SEM) were also carried out help clearly understand deformation failure surfaces. findings show that, increase rate a strengthening UCS. between more in line with an exponential function when 0.1 During process rates, axial characteristics all tested divided into uniform non-uniform phases. 0.5 1 mm/min resulted smallest standard deviation both displacement strain observed three preset monitoring points. As increased, Ca/Si parameter fracture surface increased slightly. research demonstrated under provided key evidence selecting appropriate assessing USC sample laboratory tests.
